How to Submit a Motion at UBU
UBU is currently going through a total turnaround — refreshing our democratic processes, raising our standards, and putting student power back where it belongs. As we rebuild a stronger, more transparent Union, your ideas are the foundation of that change.
A motion is your formal tool to set UBU’s direction, create real policy, or mandate your Sabbatical Officers to take action on issues that matter to you.
Get in touch with us early. UBU staff will work alongside you to gather evidence, build momentum, and draft realistic resolutions that UBU can deliver.
Every motion requires a Proposer, a Seconder, and 15 Student Assenters (students who support bringing the motion forward for debate, provided with their student ID numbers).
Present your motion to monthly UBU General Meetings. Following a debate with speeches for/against and a Q&A session, attendees will vote.
If passed, your motion becomes official UBU policy for up to five years, committing the Union team to work toward its goals.
