We are going through a big change this year, running until summer 2027, to build a Union that is well run and shaped by what Bradford students need.
Things haven't been working as they should. We couldn't run elections earlier this year, so there are no elected full-time officers in 2026–27. Our constitution is out of date, and the way we're organised and funded needs fixing too.
The Trustee Board of the Students' Union and the University agreed to fix this properly rather than patch it up. We won't pretend this year is normal — we'd rather be open with you about what we're doing to rebuild.
Set up student representation for the year, updated finance systems, and commissioned independent research into student needs.
Campus-wide research to gather feedback, drafting a new constitution, and setting out student representation options.
Major student vote in February on the new structure, followed by officer elections in March or April under your chosen model.
Relaunching UBU with a new strategy, modern structure, and brand-new elected student leaders.
Every school has two School Representatives, plus two Postgraduate Research Representatives covering the education side of officer roles. They sit on University committees, support course reps, and raise key school issues.
Additionally, a trained panel of students handles academic misconduct hearings, and our Student Voice Chair runs General Meetings. As student volunteers doing this alongside their studies, we appreciate your patience and support!
We've asked Coole Insight, an independent research team, to find out what you want from your Union. Look out for them on campus or take 5 minutes online to shape the options you'll vote on in February!
A meeting during the week of 1st February 2027 to vote on formal charity rules. Requires 100+ students present with a 2/3 majority vote in favour.
An online vote open to every student to select how you want to be represented. You'll choose from options developed directly from autumn feedback.
