As a Therapeutic Activity Support Volunteer, you'll assist staff in leading a variety of therapeutic, physical, and recreational activities on acute wards. We're particularly interested in individuals with specific skills in these activities, as we aim to tailor them to diverse interests and abilities. This helps encourage service users to engage in meaningful pursuits, enhancing their daily structure and overall well-being. Staff supervision will be provided during all activities.

This role is based at Airedale Centre for Mental Health and you will have regular contact with service users within an inpatient environment. We seek Volunteers available for a minimum of 2-3 hours weekly on weekdays.

Before applying, we ask that volunteers consider their availability within the next few months- our opportunities are not short-term and recruitment checks can take around 2-3 months to complete.

These recruitment checks include DBS check, references, right to work and online training. You will also need attend a face-to-face Welcome Workshop, Breakaway training and an Infection Prevention session.

Key responsibilities

Support the clinical team in planning and delivering meaningful 1:1 and group activities that support service users’ health and wellbeing. Identify activities that cater to diverse interests and abilities. Engage with service users and provide reassuring company. Encourage service users’ participation in activity sessions and support them to take part. Help with preparing and restoring the activity space Communicate with Therapeutic Volunteer Coordinator and Occupational Therapy team to understand individual service users’ needs and preferences To feedback to the ward team following activity sessions
