Main Purpose:

Lead Sabbatical officer for Student & Union Affairs. Responsible for Governance and Communication, representing the student body to the University and UBU Governance bodies. Chair of Trustee Board.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary representative of student views to University and national bodies.
  • Trustee of the Students’ Union.
  • Guardian of the UBU Constitution.
  • Work with CEO on UBU strategy and financial procedures.
  • Oversee democratic functions (General Meetings, Council, Elections).
  • Primary point of contact to NUS.

Main Purpose:

Lead Sabbatical representative for student welfare, safety, inclusivity, and diversity. Leads on community volunteering and promotes UBU spaces (Room 101, Prayer Room, etc.).

Key Responsibilities:

  • President of Campaigns and welfare committee.
  • Represent student interests regarding welfare, safety, and diversity.
  • Promote community volunteering and good citizenship.
  • Support UBU Campaigning officers.
  • Work with staff on community issues and neighbourhood integration.

Main Purpose:

Lead Sabbatical Officer for activities representation (sports clubs, societies, micro-societies). President of UBU Sports and Activities Committees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee budgetary process for sports and societies.
  • Advisor for existing and new societies.
  • Lead student representative for sport to HE sectors and BUCS.
  • Ensure training of sports and society executives.
  • Represent students regarding social spaces and sports facilities.

Main Purpose:

Lead Sabbatical Officer for Educational Representation. Lead for Academic Assembly (Student & Faculty Reps).

Key Responsibilities:

  • President of the Reps Assembly.
  • Lead on academic-related decisions and misconduct panels.
  • Report to University Learning and Teaching Committee.
  • Main contact for NSS, BSS, and other surveys.
  • Liaise with Library, IT Services, and Careers Service.

Council Executive Officers (Part Time, Voluntary)

The term of office runs from 1st July, but an Officer will be excused if not available until the start of the academic year. They must be available for traditional “term-time” between 1st October and 30th June.

Main Purpose:

Represent students in matters relating to race and ethnicity, working intersectionally. A voice for racial equality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lobby on policies relating to racial equality.
  • Coordinate campaigns (e.g., Black History Month).
  • Provide specific representation for Black students.
  • Liaise with relevant societies.

Note: Candidates must define themselves as a member of an ethnic minority.

Main Purpose:

Represent students in matters relating to race and ethnicity. A voice for racial equality in UBU and the University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lobby on policies regarding racial equality.
  • Coordinate campaigns relating to ethnic minorities.
  • Coordinate with the Black Students' Officer.

Main Purpose:

Represent students in matters relating to disability and accessibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lobby for accessibility in University policy.
  • Fight for a disability-friendly campus.
  • Coordinate campaigns and educational events on disability issues.

Main Purpose:

Represent the voice and interests of international students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent international students in University policy.
  • Coordinate with the International Office and help students settle in.
  • Liaise with International Societies.

Represent students regarding equality of opportunity. Voice for Mature Students, Home-based Students, Students with Dependants, and under-represented groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lobby for inclusive University policies.
  • Represent students identified as "falling through the gaps."
  • Coordinate campaigns on equality, inclusion, and diversity.

Note: Candidates must define themselves as belonging to an LGBTIQA+ group.

Main Purpose:

Represent the student body in matters of gender equality, sexuality, and related issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lobby on policies relating to LGBTIQA+ equality.
  • Coordinate LGBT+ History Month and related campaigns.
  • Liaise with relevant societies.

Note: Candidates must define themselves as a member of the Trans+ community.

Main Purpose:

Represent Trans+ and non-binary students, and the wider student body on gender identity equality issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lobby on Trans+ equality policies.
  • Work towards a safe and friendly campus for Trans/non-binary students.
  • Coordinate specific campaigns and educational events.

Main Purpose:

Represent women students in matters relating to biological sex, gender, and equality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lobby on sex and gender equality policies.
  • Coordinate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month.
  • Campaign for a safe campus for women.

Main Purpose:

Champion environmental protection and ethical behavior in UBU and the University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with UBU Democracy Committee on environmental policy.
  • Lobby the University on environmental/ethical impact.
  • Coordinate Earth Day and Fair-Trade Fortnight events.

Note: Must be registered as a Post-graduate student.

Main Purpose:

Represent all Post-graduate Students (Taught and Research).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent PG interests in learning, teaching, and social life.
  • Co-convene the Post-graduate Students Network.
  • Liaise with Inclusion Officer regarding Mature Students.

UBU Council Officers (Part Time, Voluntary)

Voluntary · Trustee

Main Purpose:

Trustee of UBU. Responsible for chairing UBU Council meetings and ensuring smooth running and adherence to procedure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chair UBU Council meetings (casting vote).
  • Attend UBU Trustee Board meetings.
  • Ensure UBU Constitution is applied correctly.

Main Purpose:

Represent the voice and opinion of all student members. Raise issues and resolve problems brought to Council.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend all UBU Council meetings.
  • Scrutinize Executive Officer reports.
  • Stand for election to UBU Council committees (e.g., Democracy, Elections).
