About

Welcome to the 28th Annual University Of Bradford May Bank Holiday Basketball Tournament!

To all of you veterans, welcome back and hello to all of our newbies here for the first, but definitely not the last, time!

Friday Evening

Registration is open 4pm - 10pm in Sports Bar (usual venue) for those that don't know please see the map attached. At registration, you will be asked to pay any remaining entry fees you have, there is a cash machine in the bar. Once you've registered you will be provided with tickets for Friday night's entertainment, which takes place at Flares, BD7 1BW. We have Floor 2 booked so everyone will need a wristband to get in, they will not be accepting payment on the door so if you need a ticket please contact me. They are fine with fancy dress as well.

The schedule for the following day will be given to you at registration and I will also place a copy on the facebook page and email all team captains.

Saturday

The main tournament desk will be at Unique if you have any queries.

You will be able to collect meal tickets from the tournament desk after lunchtime. Meal sittings are 6pm, 7pm, 8pm at Anams BD7 1RP

The last fixture will be finished by 7pm.

The entertainment will start with the build up to the Joshua Klischkco fight from 9pm, at the Sports Bars.

For those that don't want to watch the boxing a DJ will start at 10pm in the bar next door so you can warm your dancing shoes up in time for Amnesia.

Amnesia returns for the fifth year with the DJ's taking over at midnight and you can dance/drink the night away until 4am. THE WHOLE NIGHT IS FREE FOR ALL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT MEMBERS! Anyone without a ticket will be charged £4 on the door.

I will hopefully be able to send the fixtures out for the following day before the boxing starts, again they will be sent via email and posted on facebook.

Sunday

The main tournament desk will be at Unique if you have any queries.

Fixtures start at 9am and finish at 7pm.

You will be able to collect meal tickets from the tournament desk after lunchtime. Meal sittings are 6pm, 7pm, 8pm at Buffet@Bradford BD1 5SH. Please be aware that each sitting lasts for 45minutes, this is to allow the restaurant to prepare for the next sitting.

The entertainment will take place, at the Student Union (same as the previous night) A DJ will be on hand to play any songs you'd like, so please suggest requests, the night is yours to shape until 2am!!

If you would like a few drinks after the Chinese before heading back to the Student Union I would recommend the Sunbridge Wells Tunnels BD1 1SD. There are a number of bars set in the old Victoria Tunnels found under the city. The bars are more expensive than the student prices but still probably cheaper than the London prices some of you will be used to. I wouldn't recommend going there in fancy dress though.

Again I will send the fixtures for the following day out during the evening via email and posted on facebook.

Monday

Fixtures start at 9am. For the morning all 3 venues will be used. If you aren't fulfilling your fixture on Monday please let me know Sunday evening. This allows me to adjust the schedule and might give the refs a lie in after their gruelling night in the hot tub!!

From approximately 11:30am the tournament will move to the college to start the finals and the competitions.

Competitions available are 1 on 1, 3pt, Slam Dunk. If you would like to enter please send me your name and team name or speak to a volunteer on the reception desk. We have 'AMAZING' prizes for the winners!

The championship finals will take place from approx 2pm and finish at 4:30pm, where we will start the presentations and wrap up the weekend.

This will be available from 5pm on Friday 28th April - 5pm on Monday 1st May.

Challenges / requests

Most importantly enjoy the weekend!!

If I can ask you to respect the refs and volunteers at all times! If they are out; buy them a drink/shot/dirty pint.

Introduce yourself to three people the tournament relies upon;

  • Rich Crowder, founder, I challenge you to over shake his hand, wait until it is so uncomfortable he has to pull his hand away!
  • Brian Sly, chief ref, welcome him with a high five (high ten if you get carried away) every time you see him!
  • Fooks, timetable master, give him team hugs anytime you wish!

Extra credit to those teams who manage the above on and off court!!

Lastly - Always wear your tournament stripes!
