Annual Awards Gala 2026

Nominations open today for our annual Ubies Awards Gala, held at Rio Grande, on Friday April 24.

You guys have done some amazing work this year and the Ubies is a chance to shine a spotlight on your achievements.

Nominations end on March 31 and we hope to get as many nominations as possible to highlight the excellence that exists here at Bradford amongst our students.

Winners are determined based on quality of submission, not on number of nominations received so please take care when completing your nomination form.

The winners will be announced at our end of year dinner where there’ll be amazing food, a photo booth, caricaturist, 360 camera and more.

Sports

Sporting Colours

Recognizes exceptional dedication, performance, and leadership representing the university in their chosen sport over a prolonged period.

Nominees will have provided support to our sports clubs in the form of two different senior exec positions (e.g. President, Treasurer, and Secretary or Sports Committee) or three different exec positions of any standing across two clubs.  

The award is applicable for held positions over multiple years.

Sports Person of the Year

Awarded to an individual demonstrating outstanding athletic achievement, sportsmanship, and commitment to their club this academic year.

Nominees will have shown outstanding performances representing the University in BUCS, National Competitions or Regional Competitions in the 2025/2026 season.

Sports Exec of the Year

Honours a committee member or team who has shown exceptional organizational skills, leadership, and dedication to running their sports club.

Nominees will have gone above and beyond in their contribution to both their club and to UBU in a non-playing capacity during their time at university, excelling in one or more of the following categories; Fundraising; Inclusion; Engagement; Development

Team of the Year

Celebrates a specific sports team that has achieved remarkable competitive success, teamwork, and outstanding overall performance.

Nominees will have performed exceptionally in BUCS, National or Regional Competitions in the 2025/26 season and can show either a sustained performance or great improvement in their performances from last season to become one of the top performing teams at the University. 

Most Improved Club

Recognizes a club showing significant growth in membership, performance, engagement, or administration compared to the previous year.

Nominees must give evidence of the improvements made from last year and the impact that this has had on its members. Examples include:

Club development; increasing membership numbers, ensuring the sustainability of the club

Social; inclusivity, accessibility, culture and reputation, increased events, increased support for members

Engagement; with UBU, charity work, connections with other student groups

This award can be awarded to those clubs set up in the 2025/26 academic year if they can prove that they have been run sustainably for the season whilst still giving evidence of how they have put measures in for the above criteria.

Club of the Year

The ultimate award for a sports club demonstrating excellence in competition, inclusivity, administration, and campus engagement.

Nominees must provide evidence of how they have excelled in areas such as: 

Management and Administration - Including exec roles & responsibilities, health & safety, memberships, communication with members .

Performance - Player recruitment and retention, on pitch successes, player development 

Club Development and Sustainability - Fundraising and sponsorships, promotion and advertising, personal development of players

Social - inclusion, accessibility, culture and reputation, support for members, collaborations with other clubs/student groups

Engagement - with UBU, with alumni and wider community, wtih charities, with other groups/individuals

Societies

Societies Colours

Awarded to students who have shown long-term, outstanding commitment and invaluable contributions to their society's success.

Nominees will have provided support to our ssocieties in the form of two different senior exec positions (e.g. President, Treasurer, and Secretary or Society Committee) or three different exec positions of any standing across two or more socieities.  

The award is applicable for held positions over multiple years.

Society Event of the Year

Recognises a highly successful, innovative, and engaging event that significantly benefited students and the wider community.

Nominations for this must have been run as an official UBU event by a society (if unsure whether an event qualifies please email Chimeremeze Nwokenne - c.nwokenne@bradford.ac.uk). Evidence must be given for the numbers of attendees, impact of the event on the attendees and wider student body, inclusion, accessibility, and the planning and organisation of the event.  

Must be an official UBU run event by a society

Include evidence of attendee numbers, impact of the event, inclusion, accessibility, planning, and organisation 

Society Exec of the Year

Celebrates a committee member or team who went above and beyond in leading, organizing, and growing their society.

Nominees will have gone above and beyond in their contribution to both their society and to UBU in an administrative capacity during their time at University, excelling in one or more of the following categories:  

Fundraising
Inclusion
Engagement
Development
 

Can nominate across multiple exec positions for the same individual if their impact has reached more than one society.

Most Improved Society

Highlights a society that has dramatically revitalized its activity, membership, and impact over the last academic year.

Nominees must give evidence of the improvements made from last year and the impact that this has had on its members. Examples include:  

Society development; increasing membership numbers, ensuring the sustainability of the society. 

Social; inclusivity, accessibility, culture and reputation, increased events, increased support for members.

Engagement; with UBU, charity work, connections with other societies. 

This award can be awarded to those society set up in the 2025/26 academic year if they can prove that they have been run sustainably for the season whilst still giving evidence of how they have put measures in for the above criteria.  

Best New Society

Honours a recently affiliated society that has made an immediate, positive impact on student life with strong engagement.

Nominees must have been formed in the 2025/26 academic year and must give evidence of the following areas:  

Engagement (membership numbers, with UBU, with other societies).

Development (equal work loads across the exec, sustainability of the club).

Social (inclusivity, accessibility, support for members).

Must be a society formed in 2025/26.

Society of the Year

Awarded to the most outstanding society demonstrating consistent activity, inclusive practices, and a fantastic student experience.

Nominees must provide evidence of how they have excelled in areas such as:  

Management & Administration - Including exec roles & responsibilities, health & safety, memberships, communication with members.

Society Development & Sustainability - Fundraising and sponsorships, Promotions and advertising, Personal development of members

Social - Inclusion, Accessibliity, Culture and reputation, Support for members, Collaborations with other student groups.

Engagement - With UBU, with alumni and the wider community, with charities

Education

Student Rep of the Year

Recognizes a dedicated course rep who has consistently gathered feedback and driven positive changes for their cohort.

Evidence must be given in the following areas: 

Impact (any changes made, impact on other students).

Engagement (with UBU, with your school).

Nominees must have been a Student Representative in the 2025/26 academic year.

Most Impactful Rep

Highlights a rep whose specific interventions led to a major, tangible improvement in the academic experience.

Nominees must be an active Student Representative who has demonstrated impact on the student experience within their programme or school. This could be running an academic campaign, helping students with their studies, working with programme staff to introduce new ideas to enhance learning and teaching. 

Nominees Must be a Student Representative for the 2025/26 academic year  

School Rep of the Year

Celebrates a School Rep demonstrating exceptional leadership in amplifying student voices across their entire academic school.

Evidence must be given in the following areas: 

Impact (any changes made, impact on other students).

Engagement (with UBU, with your school).

Nominees must have been a School Representative in the 2025/26 academic year.

General UBU

Campaign of the Year

Recognises a powerful, student-led campaign that successfully raised awareness, created change, or tackled a vital issue.

This award can be for a Society, Sports Club, Exec member, Rep, Council member or other individual or group. 

The award is for any student-led campaign which has had an impact on the student body. 

It could be one of our campaigning months, a motion passed at council, a fundraising campaign, an awareness campaign, or any other such project.

UBU Team Bradford Award

Honours an individual or group embodying the values of Team Bradford through exceptional collaboration and university pride.

This award can be for an individual, a group, or a project. Nominees for this award will have gone above and beyond to contribute to the success of UBU and make a substantial impact.

Provide evidence of an exceptional contribution to UBU across charity, fundraising, inclusion, engagement, administration, etc.

Hamza Butt Impact Award

Celebrates outstanding volunteering or community initiatives that have made a profound, positive difference in the local Bradford area.

For sports, societies, reps, volunteers, student groups and individual students that have made a significant impact in a community.

The impact must have taken place in the 2025/26 academic year.

Evidence must be provided for the following areas if applicable: Charity and fundraising, Attendance, Inclusivity, Reach
