MUQADDAS KAYANI Manifesto

"Hello everyone, I'm Muqaddas, and I'm running to be your International Students Officer. My name means 'pure,' and that's exactly what my intentions are: to bring clarity, support, and genuine advocacy to your experience here at the University of Bradford.

I understand that coming to a new country and navigating a different educational system can be both exciting and challenging. You've left your homes, families, and familiar surroundings in pursuit of a brighter future, and you deserve an environment where you feel supported, valued, and empowered.

Many international students hesitate to voice their concerns, fearing they might be overlooked or misunderstood. I want to change that. I want to create a safe and inclusive space where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences, knowing that your voice will be heard and respected.

Your educational journey is a significant part of your life here. It's where you spend most of your time, learn, grow, and build your future. I believe that every student deserves a positive and enriching academic experience. That's why I'm committed to working tirelessly to address the issues that matter most to you.

Imagine having a dedicated advocate who understands your unique challenges and is passionate about finding solutions. Someone you can trust to represent your interests and fight for your rights. Someone who speaks your language – literally and figuratively.

With a significant portion of our international student body hailing from Pakistan, I'm fluent in Urdu and Punjabi, allowing me to connect with and represent a large segment of our community on a deeper level. For other students, I offer my support in English and Romanian, ensuring that everyone feels included and understood.

But my commitment goes beyond language. I believe in celebrating the rich diversity of cultures and religions that make our university so vibrant. I pledge to foster an environment of mutual respect and understanding, where everyone feels welcome and valued for who they are.

As your International Students Officer, I will:

 * Be Your Voice: I will actively listen to your concerns and advocate for your needs at all levels of the university.

 * Build Community: I will organize events and initiatives that bring international students together, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie.

 * Provide Practical Support: I will work to improve access to resources and services that address the specific challenges faced by international students, such as visa issues, accommodation, and cultural adjustment.

 * Promote Inclusivity: I will champion policies and practices that ensure all students feel respected, valued, and included in university life.

 * Bridge the Gap: I will facilitate communication between international students and the university administration, ensuring that your voices are heard and your concerns are addressed.

I am passionate about making your experience at the University of Bradford as smooth and fulfilling as possible. I want to be the helping hand you can rely on, the voice that amplifies your concerns, and the advocate who champions your success.

SANWAL KHAN Manifesto

My name is Sanwal Khan, and I am running for the position of International Students Officer. As an international student myself, I understand the unique challenges faced by students coming from all over the world to study at Bradford. Through my involvement with the Islamic Society, Indian Society, Pakistan Society, and the Crochet Society, as well as volunteering at events like Culture Fest and Communal Iftar, I have had the privilege of engaging with students from diverse backgrounds. I want to use this experience to advocate for better support systems, stronger representation, and a more inclusive university experience for international students.

Moving to a new country for education is a rewarding but challenging experience. Many international students face issues such as cultural adjustment, visa and immigration concerns, financial pressures, and difficulties accessing support services. My goal is to ensure that international students receive the guidance and resources they need to settle in, succeed academically, and feel a true sense of belonging within the university community.

One of my key priorities is improving academic and professional support for international students. Many of us face challenges adjusting to different teaching styles, academic expectations, and assessment methods. I will work to ensure that international students have access to tailored academic support, including writing workshops, dissertation guidance, and mentorship programmes. Additionally, I will advocate for more career support, including international student-friendly job fairs, visa guidance for employment, and networking opportunities with alumni.

Another major focus will be enhancing student well-being and mental health support. Adjusting to a new country can be overwhelming, and international students often struggle with homesickness, loneliness, and mental health concerns. I will push for greater awareness and accessibility of mental health services tailored to international students, including culturally sensitive counselling and peer support networks. My aim is to create a strong and welcoming support system where students feel comfortable seeking help when needed.

Financial difficulties are a common concern for international students due to high tuition fees, living expenses, and limited work opportunities. I will advocate for increased financial support, including more scholarships, bursaries, and funding opportunities. Additionally, I will work to improve access to part-time jobs, both on and off campus, by collaborating with local businesses and the university’s career services.

Building a vibrant and inclusive international student community is essential for making students feel at home. I will organise more social events, cultural celebrations, and networking opportunities to bring students together and help them integrate into university life. Strengthening collaboration between diverse cultural societies will foster intercultural exchange and create a more cohesive and supportive environment for all international students.

I am committed to advocating for real change and ensuring that every international student feels valued and supported. If elected, I will work tirelessly to improve academic support, mental health services, financial assistance, and community engagement for all international students.

Vote for Sanwal Khan as your International Students Officer, and together, we can build a stronger and more inclusive international student community.

MOHAMMED SUFIYAN Manifesto

I am the current Disabled Students Officer who has made a significant contribution to help students with various disabilities.

I have achieved the following:

  • Conducted a survey to determine whether students with disabilities were affected by the universtiy change in policy around reductions in extensions around coursework.
  • Using the data received from the survey I submitted a motion to UBU Council that unanimously passed. This will now be taken to the university and the sabbs will lobby the university senior manager to increase the extension period for students with disabilities.
  • I collaborated with the Baking Society, Hiking Society and the Take a Hike wellbeing group, to bake cupcakes and sell them at Culture Fest. I invited disabled members of Take a Hike to contribute as I wanted disabled people to be represented at Culture Fest.
  • I have promoted Take a Hike and fundraised for the group this year.
  • In January 2025 I was co-opted to the role of Disabled Students Officer, prior to this I was a UBU Council Lay Member.
  • I am in the process of setting up a Mixed-Ability Society to help students with disabilities make friends and socialise.

If I was elected as Disabled Students Officer, I would hold a series of events to celebrate Disability History Month in November and December. I would advocate for the rights of disabled students to help them in academia and socially. I will use my experience and knowledge to help them access support with their learning if they are struggling.

Please vote for me as your next Disabled Students Officer.

Ebenezer Andoh Manifesto

The pervasiveness of international education has become a crucial topic which needs legal understanding into education policy formulation to ensure a great standard of international education anchored with the rights and welfare of international students. For one to make a bold decision to study for global recognition and certification outside his or her home country takes alot of sacrifice. As an International student myself, I can testify to the ordeal of many international students who have to suffer by raising whooping amount of money as tuition fee and mobilizing funds for living expenses, accommodation, and other stuffs.

I have always wished for this day to come when I can have a platform big enough to adopt my advocacy skills as a legal mind to change these situation. I will advocate on behalf of all international students by and large to ensure that international education is inculcated with modules on demand for sustainable development. A kind of education where the rights and welfare of students are paramount with the academic council. I will also advocate for more discount, scholarships, grant and bursaries for international students tailored to various areas of studies.

Considering the stress of schooling abroad, placing a limitation on student visa category and to the extent that it is no more attractive enough for employers to hire international students in their areas of studies is a great detriment to acquisition of knowledge and experience. I will therefore advocate through the University to the Home Office to reconsider restrictions placed on Students Visas. Again, I will advocate for dependents opportunities to be expanded to all post graduate programs  and no only research post graduates and PHD students. This will afford more international students an opportunity to come and study in the United Kingdom as compared to the drastic fall in international admissions in 2024 /2025 academic year.

Fast forward, I will liaise with the Employability and Career Unit of the University to develop campus jobs and graduate assistantship programs for at least 50% of international students to help curtail challenges most International students face as a result of no employment which ripples the effect of anxiety and frustration on students during studies. I believe that putting these measures in place will limit the number of international students who abandon studies to look for meaningful employment opportunities elsewhere.

Electing me as your International Relations officer would go a long way to transform the face of international education not for us here alone but the next generation to come. Individual concerns will be given paramount attention and consideration to relief international students from the stress and uncertainties we face. Your rights and welfare will be enshrined in the formulation of any international education policy and legal documents to ensure your voice is heard as a conduit for promoting diversity of culture.

I am your voice, your hope to the dream and your anchor in the midst of the raging sea. Ebenezer!, this is how far the Lord has brought us all.

Thanks.

ZARA KHURRAM Manifesto

As a student at the University of Bradford, I have actively contributed to making our union more inclusive by founding and leading the British Sign Language (BSL) Society. Inspired by our Deaf instructor, Aftab, whose passion for sign language highlighted the importance of breaking communication barriers, I was motivated to create a dedicated space where students could learn and engage with BSL, while also gaining a deeper understanding of Deaf culture.

Serving as the president of the BSL Society has provided me with valuable experience in promoting inclusion. Working closely with my executive team, I ensure the smooth running of the society by managing essential responsibilities such as booking rooms and scheduling sessions, coordinating with our instructor, and preparing the space before each meeting. Although these tasks might seem minor, they are essential for creating a welcoming and organized environment that allows every student to learn and participate comfortably.

In addition to managing the society , I have actively spread  Deaf awareness across campus. During the university’s refreshers event, I took the opportunity to educate students who were unfamiliar with BSL. I explained the significance of sign language, demonstrated basic signs such as the alphabet, and engaged in conversations about the benefits of breaking communication barriers. This experience not only deepened my commitment to inclusion but also sparked greater interest among students to learn and embrace diversity.

My experiences clearly demonstrate my dedication to ensuring every student feels valued and included within our university community. If elected as Inclusion Officer, I will work tirelessly to enhance accessibility, promote equal opportunities for all students, and raise awareness of diverse cultures and needs. I am passionate about fostering a supportive environment at UBU where every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

MINAHAL FAISAL Manifesto

I am pleased to apply for the job of Inclusion Officer because I feel my leadership experience, collaboration skills, and enthusiasm for creating diverse and inclusive settings qualify me for this position. Throughout my education, I've exhibited a strong dedication to establishing environments in which all individuals, regardless of background, feel appreciated, respected, and empowered.

My leadership expertise is one of the important elements that distinguishes me as an outstanding candidate. In past posts, I was responsible for managing teams and programs targeted at increasing diversity and inclusion. One significant experience was leading a diversity task group for my college. I collaborated with colleagues from all backgrounds to evaluate the present culture and suggest opportunities for change. We devised tangible tactics for enhancing representation and creating a more inclusive workplace via open discussions and collaborative efforts. My leadership on this project not only contributed to a more inclusive atmosphere, but it also taught me about the complexity of executing such projects. This experience taught me significant team management and leadership abilities, as well as how to drive real change, which are required for the post of Inclusion Officer.

In addition to my leadership expertise, I have a solid foundation in teamwork. I recognise that inclusion is more than simply individual efforts; it is about developing a collective culture in which every member feels heard, respected, and cherished. I've worked with a variety of teams, demonstrating my ability to interact, communicate, and reach consensus among people from diverse cultural, professional, and social backgrounds. I take pleasure in my ability to actively listen and interact with other ideas, which fosters a sense of belonging among teams. These abilities are essential in the work of an Inclusion Officer, since fostering discourse and facilitating cooperation across various groups is critical to attaining the organization's inclusion goals. My method also emphasises empathy and cultural knowledge. I understand that in order to be effective in my capacity, I must participate in ongoing self-reflection and personal development. Over the years, I've worked hard to question my own prejudices and get a better understanding of marginalised populations' perspectives. I often attend workshops and participate in debates about diversity, equity, and inclusion. This constant learning process has allowed me to not only get a better knowledge of structural disparities, but also to propose solutions that are both informed and sensitive to the needs of many groups.

I genuinely think that as an Inclusion Officer, it is critical to ensure that projects represent persons' lived experiences, and I am devoted to supporting this value.

Furthermore, I am enthusiastic about promoting equal opportunities and ensuring that everyone gets the resources and support they require to thrive. I am extremely devoted to creating places that encourage various ideas and allow individuals to grow without the hurdles that frequently result from prejudice or bias.

ZENIB ZIA Manifesto

My name is Zenib, and I am standing to be your next Minority and Ethnicity Officer because I am deeply passionate about advocating for inclusivity, representation, and racial equality. As a Muslim Hijabi student from an ethnic minority background, I understand the challenges that many of us face, whether in academic settings, social spaces, or wider university policies. I believe that every student, regardless of their background, should feel valued, respected, and supported, and I am committed to ensuring that our voices are not only heard but also acted upon. While the University of Bradford is incredibly rich in diverse cultures and has even been recognised for its social inclusion efforts, I believe there are still gaps that need to be addressed and these gaps often stem from a lack of education and awareness.

My goal is about ensuring that every student at the University of Bradford feels empowered, represented, and heard. I want to break down barriers, amplify student voices, and create a more inclusive and representative environment. As Minority and Ethnicity Officer, I will work to create spaces where discussions can take place, where students feel safe sharing their concerns, and where we can collectively push for change. Representation should go beyond number, it should mean having our voices heard in policies, in student experiences, and in the wider university culture.

As an executive member of the British Sign Language Society, I have actively worked towards making our campus more inclusive, ensuring that language barriers do not exclude students from accessing opportunities. Additionally, my involvement in the 16 Days of Activism campaign against violence towards women has reinforced my commitment to standing up for marginalised communities and working on issues that directly affect our student body. Through my roles as a Student Representative and Student ambassador, I have consistently worked to support students in their personal and academic journeys, helping to create safe spaces where concerns can be voiced and addressed.

If elected, I will push for stronger policies that protect and uplift ethnic minority students by ensuring that racial equality is not just a statement in university policies but an active commitment. I will ensure that ethnic minority students are consulted on decisions that affect them, and that the Students’ Union regularly reports on racial equality issues, holding the university accountable for its commitments.

I will also focus on running impactful campaigns and events that go beyond symbolic representation. I want to make Black History Month more than just a symbolic gesture but an opportunity for real education and engagement, celebrating the contributions of Black students and addressing racial justice issues. I will work on cultural events that highlight the richness of diversity at Bradford, providing a space for students to share their identities and traditions. Education will be central, with workshops tackling racism, Islamophobia, and discrimination, empowering students to challenge inequality. Working with the Black Students Officer and others, I will take an intersectional approach to ensure meaningful representation and change for all ethnic minority students.

OSHAN JAIN Manifesto

I am submitting my manifesto for the position of Environment and Ethics Officer with a commitment to fostering a more sustainable, inclusive, and ethically responsible university. My goal is to ensure that every student benefits from a campus that not only prioritizes environmental sustainability but also upholds ethical values in decision-making and student engagement.

Through my various leadership roles, including serving as a Student Ambassador, Course Representative, and Faculty Representative for FOEDT, I have actively advocated for student needs and wellbeing. These experiences have shown me the importance of bridging the communication gap between students and university administration, particularly when it comes to sustainability and ethical governance.

I have consistently championed the need for better academic and wellbeing support, improved timetabling structures, and safer, more accessible learning environments. My advocacy extends to enhancing peer mentoring initiatives for international, disabled, and mature students while also pushing for a curriculum that reflects contemporary ethical and environmental challenges.

My involvement in student societies as an executive member has given me valuable insight into how extracurricular engagement contributes to student life. From sports activities to creative workshops, I recognize the importance of providing students with opportunities outside of academics. If elected, I will work towards making these opportunities more sustainable, ensuring that university events and activities align with green practices and ethical considerations.

As Secretary of the Activities Committee, I have gained administrative experience in UBU governance, advocating for society support, resource allocation, and increased transparency in student engagement. I aim to use this experience to promote inclusive participation, inter-society collaborations, and sufficient funding for student-led sustainability projects. I believe the university should take stronger steps toward environmental responsibility through initiatives such as Sustainability Week, reducing carbon footprints, and promoting ethical consumption.

As the Inclusion Officer for the academic year 2024-25, I have worked to ensure accessibility, diversity, and inclusivity across various university areas. This role has reinforced my belief in the power of student voices and the importance of ensuring that all students—both home and international—feel represented and supported.

Being an international student myself, I understand the unique challenges faced by students from diverse backgrounds. I am committed to advocating for safer accommodations and improved infrastructure. Additionally, I will push for more sustainable and ethical use of university resources, ensuring that facilities are efficiently managed with minimal environmental impact.

My vision for this role is to foster a university environment that is not only sustainable but also ethically responsible, where students feel empowered to participate in meaningful change. If elected as Environment and Ethics Officer, I will work collaboratively with the student body and university administration to implement initiatives that promote sustainability, ethical awareness, and inclusivity.

Together, we can build a greener, fairer, and more ethical community around the university.

Nana Afful Sagoe Manifesto

My name is Nana Afful Sagoe, a postgraduate student studying MSc. Economics and Finance for Development at the University of Bradford and I am running for the position of Black Students’ Officer.

Throughout my academic journey, I have taken on different leadership roles and these experiences have polished my personality and equipped me with leadership traits that I continue to carry on through my journey. I have learnt not to be just a spectator, who just cheers when things are going on well and boos when things are not but rather, I believe it is best to get involve in the action and add my voice to the growth of the union.

I am excited to apply for the role of Black Students’ officer. I have a dream, and it is to live in a place where there is a peaceful coexistence among all individuals within the society no matter their backgrounds or race, where the views of everyone matters. This is a role that aligns with my passion for advocacy, inclusivity and empowerment within the community.

I will work to enhance policies that promote racial equality, address discrimination and create a safe and welcoming environment for Black students. Just as the former UN General Secretary, Kofi Annan, reiterated in his speech in promoting racial integration, ‘We may have different religions, different languages, different coloured skin, but we all belong to one human race’. I believe the university has done a great job by providing a diversified environment where black students strive.  Nevertheless, I aim to use this office to collaborate with the school’s authorities and other abled bodies to ensure that issues of concern to Black students and racial equality matters are catered for.

When voted into office, I aim to champion discussions and campaigns that celebrate Black culture, history and achievement, and address shortfalls that Blacks faces within the community. This will aim at sanitizing the communities from inequalities and providing equal opportunities for Black students. I will also work to bridge the academic and career employability gap among Black students through mentorship programmes. The creation of referral programmes will aim at assisting fellow black students to get acquainted with career opportunities.

It will be a great privilege to represent a group of individuals I scribe to, and I look forward to contributing my quota to the University of Bradford Union and ensuring that the interests of Black students are represented.

Indeed, Black is beautiful as they say, it is our pride and heritage. Let's come together and push this agenda positively.

#Vote4Inclusion #Vote4NanaAsYourNextBlackStudents’Officer.

Thank you.
