Your Students’ Union is recruiting a team of students to take on paid roles and voluntary trustee positions for the 2026/27 academic year. This is a chance to represent your fellow students, gain valuable experience, and make a real difference to campus life at the University of Bradford.
We’re looking for students who care about the student experience and want to play an active part in shaping it. Whether your interests lie in academic representation, governance, sports, societies, welfare campaigns, events, marketing, or front-of-house work, there’s a role for you.
Some roles start from the 1st of July 2026, with others beginning on the 1st of September 2026. All paid roles are at the living wage rate of £15.07 per hour (£13.45 plus 12.07% rolled-up holiday pay), and hours are flexible around your academic commitments.
Read on for details of each role, or scroll to the bottom to find out how to apply.
Student Panel Members (pool)
Pay: £15.07 per hour (including holiday pay)
Hours: Casual, as required. You’ll be paid for mandatory training during the induction period and then paid per session for preparation and attendance at hearings.
Start date: 1st of July 2026
Contract: Fixed-term to 30th of June 2027
We’re building a pool of students to sit on the university’s formal hearing panels, including academic misconduct panels, fitness to practise panels, disciplinary hearings, and other student hearings as required. As a Panel Member, you’ll review evidence, participate in deliberations, and help ensure that decisions are fair and that the student perspective is properly represented.
Full training is provided and paid before you sit on any panel, and you’ll have ongoing support throughout the year.
This role starts in July because casework panels continue to sit throughout the summer.
You’ll be a great fit if you:
- Can weigh evidence carefully and make fair, considered decisions
- Are comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information
- Take fairness and impartiality seriously
- Can commit to being available at reasonable notice when panels are scheduled
To apply: Send your CV and a cover letter (maximum two pages) to Michael Allhouse at M.L.Allhouse@bradford.ac.uk by 8am on Monday the 15th of June. Your cover letter should explain why you’re interested in this role and what qualities you’d bring to a formal hearing panel, as well as addressing the job description and person specification in the role description.
Student Trustees (five positions)
This is an unpaid voluntary position. Reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
Hours: Approximately 5 to 8 hours per month
Start date: 1st of July 2026
Term: Likely to be for one year, until the end of June 2027
The Students’ Union is governed by a Trustee Board made up of student and external trustees. We’re appointing five Student Trustees to ensure the Board remains quorate and that students continue to hold a majority on the body that governs their union.
All five Student Trustees will be appointed by Student Council, following a criteria-based review by the Trustee Board to ensure all candidates meet the published requirements for the role. Any candidate who meets the criteria will go forward to Student Council, which will make the final appointment decisions.
As a Student Trustee, you’ll share collective responsibility for the governance, strategic direction, and financial health of the Students’ Union. You’ll attend Board meetings, scrutinise budgets and reports, and make sure the student voice is at the heart of every decision. This is a serious governance role with real responsibility, and it’s also an exceptional opportunity to develop leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.
Full trustee induction training is provided, and you’ll be supported by the co-chairs of the Trustee Board and Students' Union staff throughout your appointment.
Please click here for the full role description.
You cannot be a trustee if any of the reasons shown in this table apply to you.
You’ll be a great fit if you:
- Are interested in how organisations are run and how decisions are made
- Can think strategically and aren’t afraid to ask challenging questions
- Have integrity and are committed to acting in the best interests of all students
- Can commit the time needed to read Board papers and attend meetings
To apply: Send your CV and written answers to the following three questions to Andy Morwood at a.morwood@bradford.ac.uk by Monday the 8th of June at 8am. Each answer should be no more than 400 words.
Question one: The Students’ Union is a registered charity. What do you understand the responsibilities of a charity trustee to be, and how do those responsibilities differ from representing students?
Question two: Describe a situation, real or hypothetical, where you believe the long-term best interests of the Students’ Union as a charity might conflict with what a group of students is asking for. How would you approach that situation as a trustee?
Question three: The Trustee Board operates on the principle of collective responsibility. If, after full discussion, the Board reached a decision that you personally disagreed with, what would you do?
Roles starting in September 2026
We’re also recruiting for the following paid roles, all starting on the 1st of September 2026 and running to the 30th of June 2027. All roles are paid at £15.07 per hour (including holiday pay) with set hours per week to be confirmed once the Students’ Union’s budget for 2026/27 is agreed. Applications for these roles will open later in the summer.
School Representatives (twelve positions, two per school)
Two School Representatives for each of the university’s six academic schools, representing the academic interests of students within their school. You’ll represent students on university committees, lead Academic Assemblies, support student survey work, and help build and strengthen the programme representative system for the coming year. Between the twelve representatives, you’ll cover the full range of university committee seats that require student representation, including Senate, Council, Court, Learning and Teaching Committee, and more.
Student Sports Staff (several positions)
Supporting BUCS administration, fixture scheduling, kit and equipment coordination, Sports Committee, and on-the-ground support at fixtures and events.
Student Activities and Societies Staff (several positions)
Supporting student societies with event planning, budgets, governance, and the volunteering programme. Maintaining the activities platform and helping students get involved in campus life.
Student Welfare and Community Staff (several positions)
Signposting students to professional welfare and support services, and planning and delivering welfare awareness campaigns and community-building events. This is a signposting and campaigns role, not an advice-giving role.

Supporting the planning and delivery of major Students’ Union events including Freshers’ Fortnight, Refreshers’ Fair, the UBIES awards, and cultural celebrations.
Student Marketing and Communications Staff (several positions)
Creating social media content, designing graphics and promotional materials, filming and editing video, and supporting on-campus promotional activity.
