Dormant Groups

Some Sports Clubs and Societies become Dormant, more information below:

Why is a sports club or activity group dormant?

UBU puts a group into a dormant status when one of the following happens;

  • It is suspended or closed by the Assembly
  • No one stood forward to become an exec in the executive elections
  • The executive team resigns
  • It fails to pass the annual audit or its trial period
  • The executive team is removed by the Committee, Assembly or Council for failing to run it according to UBU policies and procedures

What happens when it's dormant?

It's not active. So students can't join as members and it doesn't hold any events or regular sessions. UBU keeps it's infrastructure and finance accounts for two academic years which can be inherited by a new team if they apply to bring it back.

How to bring a dormant group back

Depends on its status. If it is suspended, then a member or an exec can appeal to the Committee to reinstate it within that academic year. If the academic year ends without an appeal, it is then closed.

If it is in a special status of hibernation which is approved by Assembly, which is when no execs are elected for the following academic year, then students can sign up to exec roles by contacting the Activities Department.

If it is closed, then a new group application would need to be submitted.
