 Activities Committee

Activities is a devolved area of power from UBU Council. It is governed by an Activities Committee who also represent all of the activity groups, societies and student associations at the Students Union. The Activities Committee is elected at the Assembly made up of the executives of your activity groups. On this page you can find information about the Committee, minutes from Assembly meetings and upcoming events organised for execs and members of UBU Activities.

Chair- Chris Delee

Hi everyone, my name’s Chris, I am a third-year student studying Computer Science for Cyber Security and I am the chair of the activities committee. I have been involved in activities since my first year as a member of PiSoc (the computing society) and this is my second year in the activities committee having previously been in the role of Council Representative

My role as chair involves chairing the activities committee meeting, reporting to the council about activities along with sitting on the council and attending all meetings. Another aspect of my role is to chair the activities assembly including dealing with request to speak at assemblies from non-activity members. As the chair I am normally the point of contact for the committee and it is on me to make sure actions are carried out from the committee.

Something I want to achieve in my role as the chair is the smooth running of the activities committee during these turbulent times while using the expertise of the current committee to make things better for everyone involved in activity groups/societies within the university.

Treasurer- Elina Kaha

My name is Elina and I am a treasurer of Activities Committee this year. I have been part of Union now for 5 years and I have been part of Media Committee (before Societies and Media were combined) as well as Activities Committee. It is my 4th year in a committee. I have been a representative, as well as the chair. I am doing my master's in Human Osteology and Palaeopathology, it is my final year, and I am writing my dissertation at the moment. I am passionate about Activities and Media, I have loved every moment that I have been part of the Union, even if things get hard. I have made long lasting friendships being part of different activity groups and I would say that being part of the Union has given me skills that will help me in life and achieve my goals. I work as student staff in the Union, and am always happy to help people out when they come up to me.

Communications Officer- Anna Zhang

Hello everyone! My name is Anna, and I am a Communication Officer. My main role is to facilitate communication between your Activity Groups and the Committee, respond to any enquiries you may have and provide you with updates and decisions made by the Committee and Union.

I mainly communicate through emails; however, I can communicate through other methods as well, such as letters or social media. I aim to bring together and create a bridge between the societies and Committee, not just the exec but also the members.

Please feel free to get in touch and contact us. We are here to support you as best as we can! 😊

Inclusion Officer- Aneela Ashraf

Hello everyone! I am Aneela – second year Clinical Sciences student. I am the inclusion officer of the Activities Committee this year. My goal is to improve engagement with the underrepresented student demographics and make everyone feel welcomed and heard, while encouraging collaborations and inclusivity between activity groups. When it comes to ‘give it a go sessions’ and inclusive events I am your aide- so get in touch if you have any suggestions for me!

RAG(Raise and Give Officer)- Maryam Sani

Hi I'm Maryam, the RAG officer. I'm here to help you with fundraising and getting involved with RAG activities!

Council Representative- Sarra Al-Janabi

Hello, my name is Sarra Al-Janabi and I’m in my third year of pharmacy. I like poetry, drawing, baking and I own two cats. This year I am the president of BAPS, an SSLC representative as well as a council representative. My role as a council representative involves attending committee meetings and activities assembly to listen to and participate in discussions and decisions on societies and their activities. I then have to represent the ideas of the activities committee, activities execs and you as students in UBU council meetings. In my role this year I will work together with students to understand their views and needs. My goal is to represent students’ voices in order to create a happy and healthy ethos for all.
