One gig can change your life – at least, that's what Tiggi Hawke found. A songwriter with evident talent, her commitment to university prevented her from fully embracing music. But when she walked out in front of an audience to sing her own material for the first time, she knew which direction her life should face. “The rush, the euphoric feeling just came back and smacked me in the face, as if to say: what the hell are you doing with your life? You know what you should be doing.”
“There's no better feeling, for me,” she explains. “In a strange way I felt like I had to re-connect with myself.”
That sense of connection is something that rushes through her music, a torrent of feeling and emotion that simply demands to be recognised. “Right now,” she says, “there's so much crazy stuff going on, and there's this whole lack of empathy, of emotion, and connection. This is my way of re-connecting with people, with myself. I know that sounds wishy-washy, but I really, really do believe that.”
Gloriously colourful pop music, Tiggi's ability to nail a feeling, to crystallise a sense of drama sits alongside the likes of Charli XCX Bold, brash pop music of an electronic hue, there's a lyrical complexity at work that hints at a literary past.
“I always had this connection with words, and I think words and music can connect people more than anything,” she says. “What I loved about reading was that you had the story but no one was telling you what it looked like. And you had this world in your head that you could completely immerse yourself in. Words are one of the few things that can take you somewhere else.”
A gifted wordsmith, Tiggi draws from her own life, her own experiences, to craft superbly creative yet openly autobiographical pop hymns. “None of my music is ever going to be 100% happy because I don't feel like that reflects life,” she says. “That's just a rose-tinted version of life, that we maybe see on Instagram. I can pretty much guarantee that it won't be like that. So all of my lyrics, all of my stories, are from things I've been through, and that I've experienced.”
Tiggi Hawke is classically trained, but admits to a secret lust for rock music – she's nothing if not eclectic, as she readily admits. “I'm very open-minded. I like pretty much anything, musically,” Tiggi insists. “And obviously if it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. I'm very relaxed when I write with people. I have a good time, because I genuinely enjoy it. I can't imagine calling this work. I love it. And I love to live it.”
A key component of the creative community that has settled in North London's Tileyard area – think Chase & Status, Mark Ronson – she clearly relishes the communal nature of this studio complex. “There's so much creative talent here. We all get to work with each other. I would not be anywhere near where I am without this place. And what's nice is when you write with friends, people who have become friends, you can be very honest, very open and there is no judgement.”
To her, each day is another creative challenge, one that should be met with the most determination possible. “I love the challenge,” she says. “I love the challenge of going into a session and raising your game to meet any expectations that people have, and also to create something that you're proud of. I don't think about the future, I just go with it.”
Having endured lows in the past, she knows the power that music can hold. Tiggi’s debut track 'In The Wild' – that was taken from her debut EP ‘Burn Notice’ – connects the old with the new, a low with a high. “I felt like a climbed a mountain and I wanted it to reflect in the music,” she explains. “And it completely represents the journey that I went through. So many people go through that, and my dream is that people can hear it.”
“It's very raw – the lyrics are raw, for me. Not in a painful way, but they're very honest. And I think honesty plays a really big part in my music. It's a true representation of me as a person, and I can't think of any better way to introduce myself to people.”
Since releasing her acclaimed debut EP ‘Burn Notice’ in 2016 and single ‘Neon Dancer’ earlier this year, Tiggi has proved her ability to create a string of infectious pop gems, receiving praise from influential tastemakers including The Line Of Best Fit, Wonderland Magazine, Popjustice, CLASH, Notion Magazine, Idolator and more. Now returning with brand new single ‘Dangerous Behaviour’, a collaboration with heavyweight Dutch DJ and producer Mike Mago, her plaudits have continued, with Record Of The Day calling the track “an immensely catchy tune with swaying rhythms, a superb sing-a-long chorus and on point production” and further praise across Wonderland Magazine, The Sun on Sunday, Spindle Magazine, The Music Essentials, EDM Sauce, PopBitch, Celebmix and more.

Events promoted, sold or offered within this website are typically only available to University of Bradford students unless stated otherwise.
Attendance Policy
Unless otherwise stated our attendance policy is as follows.
University of Bradford students are eligible to attend our events and bring along a +1 providing they also have, or purchase, a valid ticket.
Other University students, and alumni, are allowed to attend with a valid ticket.
Members of the public, including students of Bradford College, are not allowed entry unless as a 'plus one' of a University of Bradford student.
For events where alcohol is served and other relevant events we will also request proof that you are a student alongside proof of age before admittance can be granted to the event.
During freshers' week events you may not have your student ID yet. Please bring along some proof of you being a University of Bradford student and accepted proof of age.
We reserve the right to refuse you entry to an event if you do not fulfill the criteria listed above or are deemed unsuitable to enter the premises e.g. through issues with behaviour or intoxication, for reasons of health and safety, refusal to co-operate with security, possession of an invalid ticket, or restrictions of any licences in force. Some events may be operated by a security team who may need to perform checks on your person and property. Some events may also include a 'no pass out' policy which would prevent you from re-entering the event unless paying again. We advise you liaise with the event manager or security at the event to clarify the position at the particular event.
Refunds to events are given at the discretion of the Students' Union and can be applied for by contacting the events team. Refund applications must be made by the named ticket-holder and must be submitted within one week of the event's date.
It is your responsibility to check your tickets as mistakes cannot necessarily be rectified at a later date. If you feel a mistake has been made please contact the events team.
You must produce a valid digital ticket or wristband to gain access to an event and you must keep this ticket or wristband in your possession. We may refuse entry if we believe your ticket or wristband is fake or has been tampered in any way.
Tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded unless the performance is cancelled, rescheduled or where there is a material change to the event. A ‘material’ change is a change which, in University of Bradford Students' Union's reasonable opinion, makes the event materially different to the event that purchasers of the ticket, taken generally, could reasonably expect.
Tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded in the event of a "Force Majeure". “Force Majeure” means any cause beyond the University of Bradford Students' Union's control including, without limitation, act of God, war, insurrection, riot, civil disturbances, acts of terrorism, fire, explosion, flood, national mourning, theft of essential equipment, malicious damage, strike, lock out, weather, third party injunction, national defence requirements, acts or regulations of national or local governments.
You shall not bring all or any of the following into events run by the University of Bradford Union of Students. This list may change without notice.
- Fireworks
- Sparklers
- Laser pens or other laser equipment
- Animals (except assistance dogs)
- Your own food and drink unless agreed ahead of time
- Glass containers
- Any item which could be classed as a weapon
Anyone who is found to be behaving into an anti-social manner or is found to be acting against the law will be ejected from the premises without refund.
Complaints procedure
If before or during the event you have a complaint in relation to the event please contact the events team or speak to a manager during the event.
Access
Our venues are fully accessible but if you do have any issues during the event please see the manager or staff on the day.
Media
By attending the event, you give your express consent to your actual or simulated likeness being included within any film, photograph, audio and/or audiovisual recording to be used in any and all media for any purpose at any time throughout the world, the copyright to which shall be owned by the Students’ Union or its contractors without payment or compensation. This includes filming by the police or security staff that may be carried out for the security of customers.
