Black History Month - Whitby Trip - October 16

Whitby is a remote and beautiful fishing village on the east coast of the UK that is difficult to get to on public transport (four and a half hours with two trains and a bus) and is a must see place, particularly if you’re an international student.

It has everything the best of the UK has to offer including the UK’s best fish and chip shop, a beach, boat trips, Whitby Abbey, a 7th Century monastery and was the inspiration behind Bram Stokers Dracula, so be wary of bats and always carry some garlic with you.

The town has a history of sailing too being the place where Captain Cook grew up and you can visit the Captain Cook Memorial Museum.

If you’re feeling energetic you can walk up the 199 steps, past the kipper smoking shacks, to the monastery for stunning cliff views.

When you’ve done all this you can enjoy a traditional British seaside experience by eating rock, playing in the arcades, poking around rock pools, hunting for dinosaur fossils or swimming in the sea (if you’re brave enough).
