Volunteering Opportunity of the Week - Practical Conservation Volunteer
This week's Vol Op of the Week is to volunteer with the Aire Rivers Trust who run practical conservation session on Thursdays or Fridays all year round.
Practical Conservation Volunteers will be involved with activities along the River Aire, the smaller rivers that run into the Aire, and the sites surrounding them. The work varies throughout the year and is a great chance to get outdoors and meet new people. Learn traditional countryside management skills; improve footpaths; free our waterways from litter; or create new spaces for wildlife.
They offer weekly practical volunteering opportunities every Thursday and Friday, at sites from Malham to Apperley Bridge, typically in places such as Shipley, Baildon, Bingley, and Keighley. The work schedule varies seasonally, with activities like litter picking, invasive species management, footpath maintenance, tree planting, hedge laying, and much more. All of these activities contribute to protecting our rivers and making space for nature.
We couldn’t care for the Aire without volunteers.
Volunteering offers a huge range of rewards. Swap the rush of everyday life for the calmness of being by water. Meet new people or learn new skills.
New faces are always welcome. All tools and training provided.

Team Bradford Sports Results - 12 November
A fantastic week for sports for Team Bradford this week with plenty of action.
Men's Football 1's finished 2-2 away at Sunderland after 90 minutes and extra time brought four more goals with the game finishing 4-4 and onto penalties. Bradford remained composed and won 4-1 securing them a third round tie against Hull in the Conference Cup.
Similarly Women's Badminton drew with Edge Hill 4-4 but won more games so progress in the cup to face Lancaster in the next round. A win there secures them a place in the quarter finals.
Men's basketball beat Greater Manchester 61-70 in a high scoring game drawing a very juicy home tie against arch rivals Huddersfield on the 26th November. A win there would see them in the quarter finals against Leeds or Leeds Met.
Well done to all of our teams.

Team Bradford Spirit of Sport Scholarship - Expression of Interest
The Team Bradford Spirit of Sport Scholarship provides vital support to students who are committed to university sport but face challenges in pursuing a life-changing degree.
Sport has an extraordinary ability to break down barriers, forge lifelong friendships, and foster a deep sense of community. This scholarship celebrates that connection, enabling students to grow, learn, and thrive — both on and off the field.
It is open to aspiring athletes as well as the dedicated organisers and enthusiastic participants whose passion, drive, and leadership are essential to the success of university sport.
The scholarship has been established by the Football Club Old Boys, a long-standing group of University of Bradford alumni united by their love of sport and the camaraderie built during and since their time at the University. For almost fifty years, this group — now 150 strong — has met annually, cherishing the friendships and opportunities that sport has given them.
As their legacy to Bradford, they have founded this scholarship to empower future generations to succeed and to experience the lifelong benefits of sporting endeavours and friendships. It is also a heartfelt tribute to those of their number who are no longer with us — teammates and friends who played a pivotal role in shaping this unique community.
To promote equality, where possible, at least 2 of the scholarships will be to female applicants.

Weekly Safety Message - Lithium Batteries
Charge Safe. Buy Safe. Dispose Safe: Counterfeit vs Genuine
Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day, from smartphones and laptops to e-bikes, power tools, and vapes. While they are generally safe, improper use, damage, or faulty manufacturing can lead to serious fire risks.
Since 2022 there has been a 93% rise in lithium-ion fires and testing shows 98% of fake chargers can cause electric shock or start a fire.
Please watch the short video HERE! to highlight the issue.
