What will you be focusing on to improve student life at the University?
"I am dedicated to promoting a cooperative and inclusive atmosphere that puts the needs and well-being of all students, lecturers, and staffs first in my position as a lay member of the University of Bradford Council. I firmly think that diversity, equity, and respect for one another may spur constructive change and improve everyone's time at campus. I will read the reports of the executive officers in advance of each UBU Council meeting, prepare any pertinent questions and attend all UBU Council meetings. I will enhance academic resources for the University of Bradford students and activities that improve the student experience by fostering leadership development skills, social connections and personal growth. I will advocate for the enhancement and growth of the campus's exercise centers, medical clinics, recreational amenities and encourage funding for programs that promote the health and wellbeing of students.
I will especially speak up in favor of laws that facilitate student success, like those that allow for flexible class scheduling and accommodations for those with disabilities, make an effort to establish work-study, internship, and part-time job options for students on campus. Finally, I will encourage students to get involved in the community by providing them with opportunities for service-learning, volunteer work, and collaborations with neighborhood organization."
What experience do you have from volunteering or current/previous work that you believe will be relevant to your nomination?
"Throughout my undergraduate studies at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, I was able to manage finances, set goals, schedule students-lecturers meetings and make sure that things were completed on time during my tenure as the Faculty of Science Public Relations Officer. During my former job at Dangote Group of Companies as an IT personnel, I volunteered to head a product design project. Throughout the project, I showed that I could lead by example, work well in a team, inspire others, and accomplish group objectives. These experiences have caused me to improved exponentially in my interpersonal and communication abilities with people and these qualities include having the capacity to listen intently, handle conflict, and forge strong bonds in addition to communicating with coworkers, stakeholders, and students in an efficient manner."
What ideas would you like to implement to improve UBU's student experience?
"Through intellectual gatherings, networking opportunities, and cultural events, I will cultivate a feeling of community and belonging among students. I will also foster friendships and relationships among students as I believe that these could involve planning frequent social activities, right decision making, and cultural festivities. I will encourage cultural diversity and assist marginalized student organizations to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus. I will also increase student involvement on university committees and in the Union to provide students a voice in decision-making and campus governance.
As a council lay member in the University of Bradford community, I will be firmly committed to working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to create a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive environment where everyone can thrive and succeed. I believe that together, we can make a positive impact and build a stronger university community for generations to come."
