Complaints and Appeals

Complaints about the conduct of candidates must be made by email to -  k.L.Turner2@bradford.ac.uk

Students wishing to complain need to collect any evidence, including witness statements if necessary, to substantiate the complaint.

Complaints cannot be made third hand, the student who experienced the problem, or saw it first-hand must email the complaint themselves.

What Happens Next

  1. A complaint by email with evidence is submitted about a candidate.
  2. UBU Elections Committee will meet based on the evidence submitted.
  3. The committee may seek more evidence, and ask staff to investigate on their behalf
  4. The Committee will make a decision and meet with the Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) making a recommendation of how best to proceed
  5. The DRO will review the recommendation and the case. A final decision will then be made, and the candidate will be informed of this decision.

Disciplinary actions will include:

  • An informal verbal warning
  • A formal written warning
  • Suspension from campaigning for a set time period
  • Disqualification from the elections

Appeals against the decision of the DRO regarding a complaint need to be sent to the Returning Officer (RO) of the Elections within two working days of the decision.

Important information to remember:

Candidates can receive penalties incrementally if they commit more than one breach;

All candidates in a slate will receive the same penalty or incremental penalties, regardless of which member of the slate committed the breach or breaches.
