On 21st May UBU will host our sixth annual Student Leadership Awards. The awards celebrate our student leaders — who volunteer in both the local and student communities, making positive contributions to the services and opportunities in which they engage.
During the evening we will be celebrating students who volunteer in a number of Union-led actives including sports clubs, activity groups, democracy, volunteering, and student representation.
This year we will be presenting five special awards. UBU are delighted to announce our first ever Student-Led Teaching Awards. The awards will be presented to both academic and support staff who our students feel have impacted positively on their student experience during the 2019/20 academic year.
A number of the awards can be nominated by staff and students of the University. These are:
Student Representative of the Year: Do you know a student who has made the student voice count? Ensuring that all the students on their programme of study are having the best experience possible, this induvial will have made an outstanding effort to communicate, engage, and consult with students. They will have ensured that the student voice was represented to the University. (Nominations from students and staff.)
Best Lecturer: This award is for an individual who particularly motivates and inspires students on their programme of study. Making study exciting and innovating, making students feel valued, and encouraging them to want to learn more. (Nominations from students only.)
The Above and Beyond Award: Is there a member of staff without whom you wouldn’t be where you are now? This award will be presented to a member of staff who has gone ‘above and beyond’ to help students achieve their learning potential. They will have created new opportunities for individual students – or student groups – that enhanced their learning experience. (Nominations from students only.)
Best Support Staff: It there a team or individual within Student Support Services without whom you wouldn’t be where you are now? Has a member of staff or a staff team gone above and beyond to help you or your course-mates to have a great student experience? (Nominations from students only.)
Best Personal Tutor: Awarded to a member of staff allocated as a Personal Academic Tutor. This member of staff is able to relate to their students, assisting them on a personal level to achieve their academic potential. They are great listeners who care about their student’s needs, available to help whenever possible. (Nominations from students only.)
Best Project Supervisor: This awards is for a member of academic staff supervising either an undergraduate or postgraduate project. An individual who provides constructive and timely feedback, is approachable, treats students with respect, cares about their individual needs and encourages professional development. They will have expertise and passion for the subject and will guide students to achieving their full potential. (Nominations from students only.)
Sport Personality of The Year: This award is to recognize an individual who has made a positive impact on and off the field of play within UBU Sports. The individual is an influential and significant figure within UBU Sports recognized by all their hard peers for their consistent hadwork and effort. they are someone who reflects the achievement possible within the UBU, represents our diversity and has had impact on the wider student body.
Activities Personality of the Year: This award is to recognize an individual who has been an executive of a society or media group this past academic year who has gone above and beyond expectations. Someone who reflects the achievements possible within UBU, represents our diversity and has had impact on the wider student body.
