Dormant Societies

Why is a society dormant?

UBU puts a society into a dormant status when one of the following happens;

  • No one stood forward to become an exec in the latest executive elections
  • The executive team resigns
  • The society fails to pass the annual audit or its trial period
  • The executive team is removed from running the society by the Committee, Assembly or Council for failing to run it according to UBU policies and procedures

What happens when it's dormant?

The society is hidden from the UBU website, no new members can join and it doesnt hold any activities. The UBU keeps it's email account, infrastructure and finance accounts for two academic years after it's first put into a dormant state

How to bring a dormant society back

Very easily! Just email letting us know who you, which society you wish to bring back and what you would like to do. Societies need at least 1 current student who wants to become an interim exec, and it then goes into a  trial period similar to new societies which lasts 6 weeks. In these 6 weeks, the society needs to;

  • Attend executive training with UBU
  • Get 10 paid members
  • Show some form of activity
  • Expand its interim exec team to have at least 3 students

At the end of the 6 weeks, the society then holds exec elections to fulfil the requirement to have an executive team of at least 3 current students running the society
