Be a Campaign leader
Council Executive are students who lead specific campaigns on behalf of your Students’ Union. These are all voluntary posts. Training and staff support is provided, and in terms of time commitments, the roles are designed to be compatible for people who are of course also studying. Students who nominate themselves for these roles must self-define, or be a member of the community of students these roles represent.
BME Students Officer
The University of Bradford has a proud history of students leading our BAME campaigns. Our BME student officer will lead campaigns within the University community, and as part of wider national student campaigns to improve access, and welfare for our BAME student community. As our campaign lead you’ll have the opportunity to work on issues like the Black Attainment Gap, microaggressions, and decolonising the curriculum. You’ll also take a lead in organising a programme of events for Black History Month in October.
Officer for Students with Disabilities
Lead and represent students with disabilities on campus. As our Officer for Students with Disabilities you will be tasked with ensuring that students with disabilities are represented on campus and are able to fully engage with their University and Student Union experience. Be the campaign lead for issues impacting students with disabilities both on campus or as part of national student campaigns.
Representing any otherwise unrepresented students in matters relating to equality of opportunity, and access to UBU and University communities and services. This role incorporates the previous roles of Mature Students Officer, Home-based Students Officer, and Students with Dependants Officer. It also covers the sector defined by NUS as "Parents and Carers". But in future this role will take a wider view, and work to help all students who in some way might otherwise "slip through the gaps" of services and facilities at the University and UBU.
International Students Officer
The University of Bradford has a large international student community, with students attending the University from many countries globally to study. The International Students Officer role is to represent international student’s interests and to campaign on any relevant issues. In addition to this our International Student Officer will run events across the academic year, making UBU a welcoming home for students during their stay in the UK.
Representing students in the LGBT community (including LGBTIQA+) in matters of gender equality, sexuality, and related issues. The LGBT+ Officer represents all students that are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans or Plus identifying. They ensure that the student voice is heard and campaign for better facilities and access. They also run events to bring the LGBT+ community closer together.
Postgraduate Students Officer
Our Postgraduate Officer provides representation for the interests of all postgraduate students (taught and research) attending the University of Bradford. Tasked with ensuring that postgraduate voice are heard by the University and Union with the same level of undergraduate students, our officer will meet with the University and Union staff to communicate the unique needs of the Postgraduate students, as well as run events to foster community on campus.
Representing self-defining women students in matters relating to their gender, welfare, and equality our Women’s Officer will lead campaigns that represent and promote the views and interests of women students. They will lead on the development of inclusion and access improvements for women students, as well as leading campaigns to create an environment free from all of forms of discrimination.
Environment & Ethics Officer
Representing the interests of students where they are affected by damage to the environment or ethical trends and choices in society. This role has been created because a significant portion of policy debated and passed at UBU General Meetings and UBU Council relates to these areas – for example our Fair Trade policy – yet until now there has been no one person whose role has been to follow up on these campaigns.
