As many of you will be aware the UK Government announced that England will enter lockdown regulations on the 5th November. We understand that this will create a great deal of anxiety for our students and we are contacting you today to let you know how UBU will support you during this period.
We know our students will have lots of questions about how this will affect their University experience. On Thursday 5th November at 3pm our student leadership team will be hosting a Instagram live for students to ask key questions about lockdown and the support currently on offer. All students are invited to join us via our Instagram page (@bradfordunisu) and take part in this discussion.
UBU want to assure you that your Students’ Union will continue to remain open during lockdown. Our staff and student leadership team will work throughout lockdown to ensure we are supporting students during this difficult time. Though our Office spaces will be limited to staff only during this period, our reception will remain open to students and our staff will signpost visitors in accessing our services.
The UBU leadership team will work with the University to ensure that learning and teaching is supported across the semester and the academic year. Over the comings weeks we meet with senior leaders to ensure that your learning experience is supported during this period and that the University is responsive to student concerns.
When lockdown begins, we will be here to support students in any way that we can. Our advice and support team will be available provide support for students seeking welfare, finance, accommodation, and academic assistance. We know that many unexpected issues may arise, and the lockdown will affect our students in different ways. UBU do not want any student to feel isolated, hungry, or unsafe and will work with the University and our student leaders to ensure our student body are sustained throughout lockdown. Any student seeking support can email UBU@bradford.ac.uk
For students in accommodation we are today launching new WhatsApp Support groups providing immediate contact with students’ Union staff and officers, as well as communities of support for students in accommodation. Our groups can be used for students to connect with others in accommodation, as well as forums to request customized support based on where students are located. To join a group please follow this link.
We know that students involved in our sports teams and activity group have many questions about how lockdown will affect their groups. UBU will work with the University during the coming week to provide guidelines for sports teams and activity groups on their engagement offer. Sports teams and activity group executives will be contacted separately when we have received this guidance.
Finally, for students visiting campus this week please can we kindly remind you to continue protecting each other and follow government guidelines to wear a mask where directed on campus.
Please do not hesitate to contact UBU seeking support during these difficult times. We are here to support you,
The Student Leadership Team
