Become an exec

Your chance to make a difference and lead a society or media area

Our areas are in need of students to sit on their executive team.

Why should I stand to be an exec?

Here are some reasons from the 2017/18 UBU Societies Vice President, Aisha;

  • You develop so many skills that will make you more employable
  • It's fun and you will meet so many people
  • You have the freedom to make the society your own
  • Being an exec brings you out of your shell
  • The experience will make you more than your degree

Elections!

You become an exec you need to stand in an election for that society/media group. There will be an Activities Wide election period in October and again in March/April.

What would I get back?

Being a society or media executive for an academic year is recognised as volunteering for a charity. At the end of the academic year, you will receive a Leaders Award from UBU showing your development. The University also recognise society executives, and it will be included on your formal degree transcript as part of the HEAR.

What if I don't have all the skills yet to be an executive?

The most important skill to have when being an executive is simple enthusiasm. Having passion and the drive to take a society on and develop it is the basis. Our aim is to help both the society and the executives develop.

UBU holds multiple training sessions from September onwards to cover role specific skills such as chairing meetings, budgeting and leadership. We will also provide support and guides on how to do everything in terms of finances, events and marketing.

How do I get involved?

Easy! Send an email to us via one of the addresses below with your interest and we’ll help you pick a role you’d like to have, and let you know the next steps.
