This Petition is for a  Prayer room, for the Christian population of Bradford University. Currently the only prayer room at the University is the Carlton Prayer room. Although it was originally created as a place of prayer for multiple faiths however it not purpose built to accommodate other faiths .

We will like our own prayer room with access without having to book , as well as a room large enough for communal prayer, in a secluded, quiet and appropriate  part of the University where disturbance was will be kept at a minimum.

As a member of the Christian community at the university, myself as well as many others feel at a disadvantage. We have no specific prayer room to pray at our convenience on the University grounds, and are obliged either book rooms that are in busy areas of the university, therefore having our prayers often disturbed by students making it unreasonable to concentrate while praying. The rooms we are given are also small in size and are not able to accommodate our prayer, as a vast majority of them are not built for this purpose, so we are forced to be inconvenienced while praying.

Everyone desrves the freedom to express their faith, so please join us to make sure this happens !

Hello, a bit of context from an alumnus: originally there was going to be a purpose built multi faith space built between Horton and Richmond buildings, then the space underneath the Carlton Prayer Room was designated as the multi-faith area. When Brian Cantor became Vice-Chancellor this was cancelled and the Post Graduate Lounge built instead. Faith provision is not a competition or a race to the bottom, other faiths deserve the same gains that Muslim students fought for for many years too. All of your concerns were experienced by muslim students before Carlton. Despite leading universities having ample provision for faith spaces, students at Bradford have not been accommodated other than by the Christian chaplaincies (which are no longer as accessible). I remember praying on a sticky floor in the bars one Friday when there was nowhere else available. I am now blessed to work at Bradford College where there are dedicated prayer and multi-faith rooms in nearly every building. I hope that University students get the same opportunities College students have now. Spiritual welfare can be an important factor in keeping mental health up and stress levels down thus improving student success.
