Our societies are in need of students to sit on their executive team. Please find their details here.
Here are some reasons from your Societies Federation Vice President, Aisha;
Being a society executive for an academic year is recognised by UBU as volunteering. At the end of the academic year, you will receive an employability certificate at the Student Leadership Awards and use us as a reference for volunteering for a charity. The University also recognise society executives, and your position will go onto your formal degree transcript as part of the HEAR.
You first self-nominate through the website. Please log in, and go to your account/profile. On the left side menu, there's an option for 'My Nominations'. This will take you to all the societies and positions you are eligible to stand for. Screen shots of the stages can be found here
You have to choose which society, and which position. Roles of each will be found in the submit manifesto section. To go ahead with standing, you'll need to upload a photo of yourself and manifesto (max 250 words) on why the society members to vote for you. Some help on manifesto writing can be found here
The most important skill to have when being an executive is simple enthusiasm. Having passion and the drive to take a society on and develop it is the basis. Our aim is to help both the society and the executives develop.
The UBU will hold multiple training sessions from September onwards to cover role specific skills such as chairing meetings, budgeting and leadership. We will also provide support and guides on how to run your society in terms of finances, events and marketing.
